(hx2) + (wx4) / 36 = y

where in:

h = height

w = width

y = answer

that is:

height multiply by 2

width multiply by 4

2. Once you get the exact measurement of the couch, you can now buy fabrics that you are going to use. There are a lot of fabrics that is available in the market today. 3. Since couch has a lot of corners it is better to use muslin clothe for your pattern. Muslin can be draped down without tearing apart. Use tailor’s chalk to mark the pattern and pin in order to hold it in place. When cutting the pattern make sure to add extra inches, that is for the stitches.
4. When draping the front of the couch, you need to give an extra allowance. For tucking give at least 3 inche and for the bottom front hem that should be 2 inches. Don’t forget to mark the pattern and pin it to hold it in place.
5. For the arms of the couch, if its rounded you need to use separate muslin cloth. That is for the upper part of the arm and the side of the arm. However if the arms are straight you can use single muslin clothe. Pin it to hold and mark with tailor’s chalk. Please give an allowance of 1 inches before cutting.
6. Cut the marked area, make sure to cut it along with the extra or allowances. Use a sharp scissor in order not to ruin the fabric.
7. For those who are beginner, it is advisable to use the plain color. In this way you can sew it in any side. Lay the sofa fabric on a flat surface. Invert the fabric whereby the part that has design will be facing down and the raw side is facing up. For starters, use a plain colored fabric, avoid too much pattern or design so as not to have problems matching the designs when connecting or sewing the fabric together.
8. Lay the muslin cloth cut-outs on top of the fabric. Cut the patterns on the fabric. Put the pieces together, one at a time, then sew using a sewing machine. You can add cords for piping to finish off or strengthen the connections.
9. After sewing, you may know turn it inside out. Then carefully slip it on your couch.
